Quiet Zone officially re-established
After about three weeks of sporadic quiet trains, the City officially announces that the Quiet Zone is once again in effect.
Keep in mind that the train engineers may still sound their horns if they desire.
The statement from the city:
After a thorough process, the City of Forney has successfully met all requirements to reinstate the downtown quiet zone for Union Pacific. The quiet zone is active, and train horns will no longer routinely sound at the five approved crossings: FM 548, Chestnut St, Center St, Elm St, and Bois D’Arc St/FM 740. The quiet zone will reduce disturbances for residents and businesses in these areas. However, please be aware that train engineers will still sound horns when they determine it is necessary for safety.
